Meet the team

Teoh Ming Jin
Chairman

A placemaking and theatre consultant, Ming steers the vision and direction of AFA. Armed with his experience in the field of performing arts through development, design and management of performing arts venues, productions and arts festivals, he wants to drive lasting changes so that Malaysia’s creative industries can strive through better policies and support systems.

Ali Alasri
Vice-Chairman

A performer and arts researcher, Ali advises on programming, planning and collaboration in AFA.  He sees AFA as a vital connector between art practitioners and partners of the arts.  To him the arts are oxygen, obligation and openness – mirroring Malaysia’s plural nature that continuously evolves and transforms.  He looks forward to new allies in the creative landscape and the shared joy of learning together through the arts.

Lee Yoke Shan
Secretary

A lawyer by profession, Yoke Shan serves as the Secretary of AFA, ensuring compliance with the Registrar of Societies and maintaining administrative records. Her keen interest in the performing arts, combined with her legal expertise, drives her commitment to AFA’s mission. She hopes to see Malaysia’s arts scene grow and flourish—especially in areas of policy and regulation.

Arief Hamizan
Deputy Secretary

A multi-hyphenated performer, writer, and director whose work bridges theatre, policy, and cultural research. As Deputy Secretary of AFA, Arief contributes to the organisation’s governance and strategic coordination, aligning administrative practice with its advocacy goals.  He co-founded Panas Panas Theatre and ERTI Research Collective where he explores how art, governance, and public imagination intersect. Beyond arts, he leads research and advocacy at the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center)

Ganesh Manickavasagar
Treasurer

With over three decades in the industry, Gan has dedicated his career to empowering models and commercial talents while collaborating closely with photographers, advertising creatives, and production professionals. As the AFA’s Treasurer, he oversees the association’s financial management.  He thrives best behind the scenes where he believes passion becomes reality.

Rebecca Lee
Committee Member

A publisher, editor, and former fine art photo gallery owner, Rebecca is drawn to stories told through movement on stage, and between pages. Having experienced the exhilaration of performing, choreographing, and producing a musical, she now channels the energy behind the scenes, connecting with creative minds and encouraging practitioners to see themselves as part of Malaysia’s larger arts conversation through AFA.

Pun Kai Loon
Committee Member

The artistic director of Dama Asia Productions, whose theatre journey began in Malaysia in 1984, Kai Loon brings decades of experience in performance and direction to AFA. His hope is simple yet profound — that the lessons, insights, and stories gathered over the years can become a small but meaningful contribution to AFA’s mission of strengthening the performing arts ecosystem.
